This morning we awoke to a change in the breakfast routine: buffet. We picked all our favorite items and enjoyed one last breakfast at Trogon Lodge. After family pictures were taken we said good-bye to all the stuff we had come to know.

The trek to Dominical began. Our driver was friendly and filled us in on some Costa Rican history. We came to the highest point on the Trans-American highway, from which, on a cloudless day, you can see the ocean. A little past that we stopped at a fruit stand. We, of course, got a piña. The owner of the fruit stand then proceeded to show us a guava tree and a peresoso (sloth). He was hidden behind some tree leaves, but you could tell he was quite large.

Another stop along the way was the supermarket. We have reached our beach town, so many people were in their swimsuits. We collected snacks for our big hike tomorrow. Just as we were heading back to the car the rain set in. If we thought the rain was left behind us in San Gerardo de Dota we were wrong, but then we are in the rainforest.

Once arriving at the new hotel, food was in mind for everyone. Bags were dropped in the cabins and then we all met for lunch at the restaurant. Dad needed revenge in Five Crowns, which he didn’t get, so we played out a game while eating lunch. For the most part it was another delicious typical Costa Rican meal.

Tummies satisfied we decided that it was time to explore. The hotel is just a short walk from the beach. When I say short walk I mean a muddy short walk. All the signs displaying the typical ocean warnings were written in Spanish, so we reached the conclusion it is a local’s beach not a tourist beach. Regardless, no one else was present so we kicked off our shoes and headed in. The water wasn’t cold, but it wasn’t necessarily warm either. Rocks covered the beach, not shells. The water was dull looking due to the darker clouds in the sky. Sand crabs covered the beach, and scurried from one place to another. To make a comparison, the beach seemed Hunger Games: Catching Fire like. The sand of the beach ran straight into the forest The sunset was barely visible due to cloud coverage. On our walk back we heard animals talking to one another, but we couldn’t identify what types of animals.

We called it a night and returned to our cabins to get ready for out big adventure tomorrow: cave sleepover and waterfall repelling. Seeing as we will be in a cave tomorrow night no blog will be posted.
