This morning I awoke to Momma and Joey, sort of. Somehow we all managed to be awake and with wifi at the same time, which hasn't happened since they arrived in China. We've been going back and forth with about two messages a day. Today, however, I got to video chat them over WeChat for about twenty minutes. It was refreshing to see them and hear their voices. I've been following along via Joey's blog, but it isn't the same.
I then quickly got ready for the day and met Makaela for our daily walk to school. Today was the last day for many of the students as they leave tomorrow. This includes Faye, Nadja, and Charlie from our class. Since I first arrived, my class has remained the same, except for adding Liam this week. (Olivia got moved to a higher level class after Monday.) Next week will be much different as a result. During our first class, we practiced the present subjunctive and future tense. Then, we played a game where you can't use the words "sí," "no," "bien," or "mal." The group would make conversation with you, trying to get you to say one of those words. Your goal was to use only synonyms, never those words. It is harder than it may seem. During our second class, we finished our recipes and played psicólogo, similar to last Friday. During the group project time, we completed each others' escape rooms. The escape room we were in was fairly difficult, and we finished last. The group in our escape room, Makaela's group, finished second (out of three) but said it was pretty good.
Hungry, Makaela and I decided to try to make it to the market we love for lunch in our fifty minute lunch break, which is a little longer than usual. We hurried our after the school day finished, walked to the market, got empanadas and my green juice, sped walked back to the park we eat in, and made it back with eight minutes to spare. We were impressed with ourselves, and the lunch was definitely worth it.
Our afternoon activities began with a game in the park. Everyone wrote down two quick tasks or questions to put in a box. The box was then passed around the circle while someone sang a song. When the song stopped, whoever was holding the box had to draw a card and either complete the task or answer the question. It was a fun game, and I was lucky enough to get off with only having to tell the group my favorite song.
Today's main activity was watching a movie, in Spanish. Initially when reading the activities at home, before I came to Spain, I thought we were going to an actual movie theater to see a movie. However, we stayed at La Cunza and watched Los Otros, starring Nicole Kidman, in a classroom. There were three options for movies, and Los Otros was voted as the one to watch. It has a little bit of a horror movie aspect to it, which I typically don't go for. I definitely fell asleep for part of it, but I woke up at the end when the story was coming together, finding myself very confused. I understood most of the Spanish, but how everything was coming together had me completely lost.
Still having about an hour left, we returned to the park after the movie. Makaela taught the group the game Signs, and we played that for awhile. Mike then introduced another game to the group that we finished our activity time up with.
After games, it was time to say goodbye to the students leaving tomorrow. It was definitely sad, and next week will be very different without them.
