Today started out the same as the other days this week, preparing for the heat. The sweating began on the walk to school. It was already in the eighties. Luckily, La Cunza is air conditioned. Entering the classroom after the walk felt amazing, and it was only 9:30 am. The heat only continued.
In our first class, we looked at some of the staples we have in our lives and briefly discussed the result of not having them, practicing the conditional tense and vocabulary. In our second class, we continued to work on animal vocabulary by completing worksheets and playing games. During our project time, we mostly finished. We completely changed the words of Despacito, and it is quite unique now.
After school, Makaela and Celeste went to an ATM while Ruby and I went to a small market. We got some carrots to have with lunch. It was nice to have some fresh vegetables. The heat getting to us, we returned to the shade in the park to eat.
The walk to the bus following lunch was hot. We were very hopeful the bus would be air conditioned. However, when we entered, we found it to be packed with people and smoldering. There was no breeze, just sweaty people. Finally reaching our stop, we got off to just as much heat outside. It was a short walk to the museum from there, but everyone was ready for AC. Outside of the museum there are many mini houses with mini trees. They were really cute. Unai, the teacher with us today, said something about Basque at that time, but I don't remember what exactly because my mind was set on AC. Seeing the museum doors, we rushed toward them, sighing relief when the cold air reached our skin. The employees at the front desk couldn't help but laugh at us. Immediately, we found a cool wall and slid to the floor, which was also cool.
Everyone recovered, we entered the museum to find lots of different experiments set up. Room after room was full of experiments to play with. Highlights would include the electricity ball, a small mirror maze, a shadow photograph, air streams, a brain wave game, optical illusions, bubbles, and much more. There were also fish and reptiles. I, of course, did not go in to see the reptiles, but Makaela showed me some pictures of the turtles. Another room contained human body organs that had been dried. Makaela found this more fascinating than me because sometimes it unsettles my stomach a little. Nonetheless, it was fascinating to glance around. The science museum did not have a shortage of activities to try.
Once through the experiments, we went into the planetarium. It was interesting to find text written on the screen in English but the narration in Spanish. I love watching the stars, but in the middle there was a large section of animation telling a story. Not going to lie, my tired self started dozing off during this section. Every once in awhile there was a transition that made you dizzy as well, but I enjoyed my time looking at the stars.
Having finished our afternoon at the museum, we thought it would be cooler outside. We were wrong. It was still very hot, but, luckily, the bus back was air conditioned and more open. Makaela, Ruby, Celeste, Nikola (from Denver), Aiden (from California), and I all got off the bus in time to go to Makaela and I's favorite market. We all got empanadas and I, of course, got my green juice. When you find good food, you stick to it.
Makaela and I hung out with the four of them for a little while, but we eventually ducked out to find the apartment my family will have this weekend. We actually managed to find the building. Our navigation must be improving. It is fairly close to my host family's apartment, which will be nice when moving my luggage.
Exhausted from the day's heat, we then headed home for a cold shower and some sleep.
