MI ÚLTIMO DÍA EN SAN SEBASTIÁN

My alarm went off this morning at 8:30 am, but Mom immediately came in to tell me I could keep sleeping. I was thankful because I slept another hour or so. Dad and Joey then went for a run, and Mom and I went on an adventure to the post office. Dad had lost his luggage on the way to San Sebastian, so, hoping to minimize casualties if lost again, we were going to ship his work clothes home. I practiced some Spanish in asking where the post office was, if they had boxes, etc. Eventually, we decided it was too difficult to ship from Spain, so Dad would just have to hang on to it and hope for the best.
Everyone back and showered, the four of us headed out for the day. The plan was to go to the amusement park I went to my first week. The park closed for lunch at two, so we didn't have time to walk there. We walked to the train station, which is close to the apartment, to get a cab. I asked the women at the counter about bus passes and taxis, but her directions were unclear. Luckily, we saw someone getting out of a cab and went over to jump in. I told him where we were going, and off we went. Having only been walking the past three weeks, I thought the cab driver was going in the wrong direction and didn't understand my Spanish. He must have though because we ended up in the right spot.
We bought tickets and got in the tram to head up. It's a steep climb. The view was amazing at the top once again, but it was only there for a few minutes. Storm clouds came swarming in so fast and soon it was pouring. We ran for shelter in the cafe and had some tea. We were basically sitting in a cloud. Once the rain stopped, Joey and I went to see if the roller coaster was open. That is the best of the amusement park. The track must have been too wet because it wasn't open. Instead, the four of us went up a tower for a higher view. The walls were covered in pictures of San Sebastian through the years. It truly is an old town. Once on the top floor, there were two sets of spiral stairs leading up to the roof. There were slits in the walls, and the cool air came streaming in. From the top you could see off the back of the mountain toward the ocean. The roller coaster also had this view, which I was hoping Mom, Dad, and Joey could see, so I'm glad you could see it from above too.
Getting cold, we headed back down the tower. It was 2:00 pm, so the park was closed down for lunch. The four of us took the tram back down the mountain. We saw a cab heading back toward the city and managed to grab it. Turns out it is difficult to get a cab here because you can't hail them. You have to either call or go to a cue. Lucky for us, police weren't around, so the driver pulled over for us.
Dropped off by the FNAC building, I brought Mom, Dad, and Joey to the empanada place. I was happy to see the vegan ones were available, and everyone could try one. I also showed them around the grocery store section where I always got my juice. Sadly, this would be my last empanada and juice of the trip, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. We ate on our walk toward old town. On the way, I ran into the La Cunza group, which was headed to the amusement park. Ruby and Celeste ran up with a hug. It was nice to see everyone one last time, even if it was only for about twenty seconds.
Back in old town, I showed Joey a couple of shops where I had purchased bracelets. She got a few for herself before we headed over to look at the church. Dad went in, but the rest of us waited outside.
Once he came back out, we headed through the bull plaza to the crepe place for my last crepe of the trip. I think they're starting to know who I am because one of the waiters new my order. It's sad to leave just as I am becoming a regular.
Mom was curious as to how the bus passes worked here after being in so many countries. We stopped by the tourist center briefly to see how all of that worked, and, compared to other cities, the public transportation seems to be kind of expensive here. Makaela and I mostly walked, except for a few bus rides home, so I didn't really know.
Needing an early night before our big day in Barcelona tomorrow, we headed back to the apartment to pack, get organize, and rest up. Finishing my packing surprisingly early, I asked Ruby and Celeste what they were up to tonight. Celeste had to stay home with her host family, but Ruby and I met up at one of the bridges. We walked around for awhile, then headed for the crepe place. Two crepes in one day. What better last day is there, except for fires on the beach maybe? We had the same waitress, and she looked a little confused when she saw me again. This time though it really was my last crepe in San Sebastian, for this trip. We hungout there before heading down to the surfer beach. The sun had just set, and the sky was beautiful. We walked down and back the beach before noticing the time. Ruby had the La Cunza curfew of 11:00 pm, so we had to head back. We hugged goodbye before going our separate ways but determined there would be a Whole Foods date, with Makaela and Celeste as well, when everyone got home.
It is strangely sad to be leaving San Sebastian, my home for the past three weeks.
